Why are IUDs at risk right now?

The far right conservative party has been pushing the “fetal personhood” language to ban abortion.

Fetal personhood laws put IUDs at risk because they define life as starting at fertilization. Since many people still ovulate with an IUD, IUDs can occasionally prevent a fertilized egg from implanting. Thus the far right is pushing the dangerous concept that IUDs are ending a “person’s” life under these laws. ASININE.

This means IUDs could be reclassified as a form of abortion, making them harder to access or even illegal in some cases if they continue to push this dangerous rhetoric.

If this happens it is likely that we will see insurance companies not cover these devices any more and may see providers refuse to insert them and even those of you in blue states may have issues getting an IUD.
